 WHO IS PEDRO? Pedro De Abreu is an award-winning entrepreneur, scholar and speaker who has inspired countless audiences around the world. His story of coming from the depths of poverty and hopelessness in Brazil to the pinnacles of business, entrepreneurship and schooling in America resonates even with the most skeptical audiences.
He offers audiences what they want a little more. He is a living testimony that the American Dream is still alive and that anyone, anywhere can achieve anything he/she puts his/her mind to. PEDRO’S STORY is a story that is able to reach any person who has ever faced obstacles; any person who has found him/herself hopeless in face of what life has to offer. He was born to extreme poverty in Brazil and moved to America in 2005 without knowing a single word of English. Through resilience, hard work and commitment to his goals, he was able to take university classes the very next year -- at the age 16 -- and pass all his exams with honors, one of them being an Advancement Placement English course, usually offered to university students only. |
After high school, Pedro moved to Hollywood, California, and started a multi-media company named Moofaces with two partners. By the year’s end, his company had reached profitability and had closed partnerships with companies like Crunk! Energy Drink and MTV Networks. Upon returning to South Carolina, Pedro started the non-profit Check Mate Foundation, which teaches chess and leadership to children across the state. Currently Pedro is triple majoring in Business Economics, Management and Organizational Leadership and holds a 4.0GPA. He has been named South Carolina's New Century Scholar by the Coca-Cola Foundation and by the USA Today. He is an All-USA C.C. Academic Team nominee, a Pearson Prize National Fellow semi-finalist and a member of the SC Academic Team. He is only 23 years old.
